Kool Kaiju Event : The Texas Toku Taisen
Tokusatsu, a film genre created in 1954 with the release of the first Godzilla movie, has a rich history with a growing roster of international tenants. Here in the US we got shows like Big Bad Beetleborgs, Masked Rider, The Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers and the most recent entry Pacific Rim.
The name of this film festiva literally means "Texas Tokusatsu Throwdown". We're celebrating this awesome genre filled with kaiju, large mechs, explosions, martial arts, and did we mention kaiju? With panels from guests like Reuben Langdon, August Ragone and Matt Frank including showings of over 18 different tokusatsu films, and the premier of the new Godzilla!
So in our ramblings over at the Justice in the Capital podcast, we’ve been talking about a film festival. We’ve been talking, but now it’s a reality! We launched our pre-sale event for the Texas Toku Taisen! We’re really busy here at Mecha Gorilla with re-designing the website and coming up with all sorts of other tokusatsu events over the next year. Passes start at $35, with special VIP and exclusive products only found here at this event! Our good friends at Alamo Drafthouse, Matt Frank and Heroes and Fantasies have been the utmost supportive in making this event a reality. We’ll be super busy rolling out all of the new features on the site, other projects we’ll be working on, and of course updates on the first tokusatsu film festival in the state of Texas. We hope to see you all there!
Here is the current list of films to be screened at this year’s festival:

Spread the love of tokusatsu!
