GODZILLA SMASH-A-THON On Sony Movie Channel

The Sony Movie Channel presents the GODZILLA SMASH-A-THON with six different Godzilla films — and one Mothra movie — airing on the HD cable channel in September. Godzilla movies will be shown each Saturday, with random airings throughout the month. The movies are also now available for viewing from Sony Movie Channel Video On Demand.

All of the films will be shown dubbed in English, though GODZILLA VS SPACEGODZILLA and GODZILLA VS DESTOROYAH will be presented in their uncut international editions rather than the edited versions previously released on Region 1 DVD.

In a related note, GODZILLA VS MEGAGUIRUS (2000) and Sony’s American remake GODZILLA (1998) are playing this month on the Starz group of channels.

GODZILLA 2000 (1999)

Saturday, Sept 8: 1.00pm E | 10.00am P
Saturday, Sept 29: 1.00pm E | 10.00am P

A thick fog covers the seashore. Suddenly, as if out of a primeval dream of terror, a massive reptilian form obscures the window of a lonely lighthouse. It has razor-sharp teeth in a gargantuan mouth; claws that can cut through steel; a roar that echoes back through the centuries; dorsal fins that resemble crimson lightning bolts; and fiery breath that incinerates everything it touches. Soon, all in the creature’s wake is utterly destroyed, and a terrified Japan can only wonder where this monstrous beast will next appear.

Godzilla, king of the monsters, is back. This time it faces a formidable new foe in Orga (aka Giant Alien Millennian), a gigantic, lethal creature that has slowly transmuted from a UFO believed to be dormant for 6,000 years.

GODZILLA, MOTHRA, AND KING GHIDORAH: GIANT MONSTERS ALL-OUT ATTACK (2001)

Saturday, Sept 8: 2.45pm E | 11.45am P
Saturday, Sept 29: 2.50pm E | 11.50am P

Fifty years ago, the Japanese Defense Forces killed Godzilla, or so they thought. When a series of terrifying natural disasters begin to plague Japan, including the inexplicable offshore sinking of a U.S. submarine, a mystic old man warns his nation that Godzilla has come back to destroy Japan as revenge for all the souls lost in the Pacific War.

When mere military might can not squash the monster, the mystic man awakens the Holy Beasts of Yamato — King Ghidorah, Mothra and Baragon — sleeping giants that protected Japan in ancient times. These untamed mammoth beasts take on Godzilla with frightening supernatural brute power that has been 2,000 years in the making. Tradition and technology collide in this chilling high-tech, cutting-edge fable.

Saturday, Sept 29: 4.50pm E | 1.50pm P

After four years of scrupulous preparation under the prime minister, a new invincible robot, Mechagodzilla, has now reached completion, armed with various weapons, including the most powerful gun in history that can destroy anything in the world. Akane Yashiro is transferred to join the Mechagodzilla team as an operator who controls the mechanical monster. As soon as Mechagodzilla starts on its test run, the huge shadow of Godzilla begins to rise from the depths of the ocean…

The battle of the century is about to take place.

Saturday, Sept 29: 6.30pm E | 3.30pm P

Mechagodzilla, the superior-armed, state-of-the-art, all-robot version of Godzilla, is undergoing repairs after his devastating battle against the King of the Monsters. Psychic fairies appear and warn scientists to stop rebuilding Mechagodzilla, but their warning goes unheeded. As the robot nears completion, a series of mysterious incidents rock the world and awaken Godzilla, who unleashes a reign of terror against Tokyo. Mothra attacks him and Japan’s desperate Prime Minister has no choice but to launch the unfinished Mechagodzilla. Will the survivor be monster, robot or man?
