GODZILLA Teaser Trailer At SDCC
A teaser trailer also premiered to a surprised and stunned crowd. Our man on the beat says that it went over better than the footage for Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim, about giant robots vs monsters. Here’s a description of the footage shown: “A city decimated. Completely destroyed. The camera pans by the wreckage of a train, A distant voice is heard reading from the Book of Revelations. The voice sounds very familair. Dust everywhere. Cars crushed. Holes in sky scrapers.
It becomes obvious that the voice belongs to Raymond Burr from the original. We then see a giant centipede like creature with many arms and legs smoldering. (You know what that means? Monster battles!) The city appears dead as a door nail. Then blackness. THE ROAR. As in THE roar. Huge Bass drop. Raymond Burr finishes his famous speech. Dust…then an arm… a hand… with claws. Pan up… holy shit… the fins. The head. Godzilla. As we know him. The real f-cking Godzilla. He roars again.
Fade to GODZILLA! With Red Japanese title behind it!”
Comic-Con 2012: 'Pacific Rim'
From Hollywood.com
We’ve seen people fight aliens, aliens fight monsters, robots fight people, and just about every other combination imaginable. But somehow, even a tale as traditional as people and robots fighting alien monsters seems unique when handled by the creative mind of Guillermo del Toro. The director took his forthcoming sci-fi adventure Pacific Rim to this year’s Comic-Con, debuting some of the first footage of the film, which stars Charlie Humman, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, and Charlie Day. All parties involved, and some spectacular imagery, made what could have been a tired premise into a unique, innovative, and most of all exciting new cinematic prospect.
The footage opens with a snowscape, two men scanning the ice with a metal detector. They find something and begin chipping away at the ice. The metal detector starting going wild, and as the Tron Legacy-esque music kicks in, the camera pans up, a giant robot is revealed. Pulp, '20s style head, swirling fan chest, big clobbering arms. The robot takes a step forward before falling down. Reminiscent of the Prometheus money shot, with a bot instead of a spaceship. Except, this is far from the money shot of Pacific Rim.
A title card: "We created monsters." The reel cuts to shots of a monster with giant claws destroying gold en gate bridge. Massive claws ripping away at the structure while fighter jets try to shoot it down. Cutting back to the Pacific Rim base, soldiers suit up in the crazy, colorful base, preparing to man giant robots. Strapping on futuristic white battle suits (Mac?), the robot squad steps inside the mech to operate together. It takes two people to man the bot, which mimics there movements.
From there, it's all robot on monster action. Multiple robots are carried into the ocean with helicopters, dropped in to fight a long-nosed, snarling beast. Back at the base, Idris Elba delivers a Braveheart speech: "we're canceling the apocalypse." Badass. Cutting back to the robot/monster battle, the trailer provides the ultimate finishing move. With a swift set of fists, the robot smashes the head of the horned kaiju (a Japanese term for the monsters). Tons and tons of carnage. But this is only one robot and one monster. According to Del Toro, there are nine robots and six monsters in total. Assume lots of s**t will be destroyed.

WB/Legendary’s Big Hall H Surprise This Year!
From Latino Review by El Mayimbe
BREAKING:
Busy day at the site today with the “Guardians Of The Galaxy” scoop we dropped earlier.
Well, guess what? We ain’t done!
I hinted at this one on twitter last night, but the comic con event I’m trying to pull off is consuming all my time. My apologies to the readers.
Now that being said…
You know what big Hall H surprise Legendary is bringing along with Pacific Rim?
Ready?
GODZILLA!
Not only is Legendary bringing the Lizard to comic con but get this, I hear the presentation is SICK! I’m not going to get into specific spoiler territory because then what’s the point of attending the panel, but take this one to the bank.Godzilla will stomp both the audio and video systems within Hall H two weeks from this Saturday! I’ll be there to witness it myself. I can already envision them shutting down the lights, hearing Godzilla’s roar, and the crowd going wild!
Anyway, Max Borenstein is currently re-writing the script from David Goyer. Gareth Edwards is directing.

New Godzilla Comic Coming From IDW
From IDW
Hi folks,
Welcome to a new year of Godzilla! I'm Bobby Curnow, I edited Godzilla: Gangsters and Goliaths and Godzilla Legends, and will be editing the entire line moving forward. If you liked those books, hopefully you'll like what we've got coming up.
Okay, on to the good stuff! This news will hit with solicits in the next couple of days, but I wanted you fine folks to hear it first...
In May we'll be launching a new Godzilla ongoing, simply titled "GODZILLA" It will be written by Duane Swierczynski and art by Simon Gane. Ronda Pattison will be returning to colors. Our own Chris Mowry will continue as invaluable creative consultant.
It will be a 'soft reboot' meaning that the story takes place in the same world as Kingdom of Monsters. Other than that though, pretty much everything will be different. The tone, the characters, the story arc. We might revisit some unanswered questions left by KOM, but for the most part, expect a completely different book. Think of it as a movie sequel with a different director, writer, cinematographer, and actors.
Issue #1 will have covers by Art Adams (see below for cover A wrap-around awesomeness!), Tony Harris and Ryan Kelly. Moving forward expect to see great covers from Zach Howard, Matt Frank and Jeff Zornow, among others.
We'll have a special 'Preview Prologue' up in the next month or so, to get a little taste of what we're aiming to do with the new series. I'm completely psyched... I think it will be a wild ride that doubles as a classic Godzilla tale. We hope you'll check the Prologue and the new series out when they hit!
SDCC Exclusive Figure
Bandai/Tamashii has a big surprise in the works for all you Godzilla fans attending this years San Diego Comic Convention. One of the exclusive offerings at the Bluefin booth will be this hotly anticipated S.H. Monsterarts-Burning Godzilla! This radioactive meltdown monster has long been a fan favorite and is sure to be a big hit at the show!

Jim Wynorski’s “GIANT GILA MONSTER” Remake: Interview & Pics
From Famous Monsters of Filmland
Indie legend and Corman to-to-guy Jim (CHOPPING MALL, RETURN OF THE SWAMP THING) Wynorski is helming a remake of the notorious 1959 Ray Kellogg creature feature THE GIANT GILA MONSTER. FAMOUS MONSTERS sat down with FM to chat about the project and share some production pics. The film, aiming for SyFy release in 2012, is currently shooting in Franklin, Indiana, just outside Indianapolis.
Despite wearing it’s meager budget on it’s sleeve, the original GILA made an impression on Wynorski that endured as he made his way in Hollywood. “I saw it on TV when I was a kid, and even then I understood it was a cheaply made movie,” shares the director. “It didn’t have a big budget, but it had a cool premise with the hot rods and rock n’ roll. When the film fell into public domain, it was always in the back of my mind to do my own take on it, and when the situation arose where I could do it, I jumped at the chance.”
“I am doing it in the style of the 1950′s, with old cars, the clothes and the lingo of that time,” continues the filmmaker. “”We are keeping the song ‘Lauch, Children Laugh’ from the original, along with the basic story line. Our story differs a little from the original, in that we have added some characters. A good bad guy and his girlfriend, who give a little more motivation to Chase, the lead (played by Brian Gross). Chase still has his girlfriend, his mother, and his polio-stricken sister, and he still likes rock n’ roll and hot rod racing. We delineated the DJ. He doesn’t directly interact with the main characters, and this time around is more like Wolfman Jack was in AMERICAN GRAFFITI, heard over the radio.”
As for the titular beastie, Wynorski was careful not to revisit the approach taken in the original, where an actual gila monster was shot over miniatures and inserted via overlay. “There are no practicals. I don’t want to hurt any animals. In the original they were forcing that poor little gila monster through the balsa wood wall he goes through at the dance and stuff, and I think with today’s CG we can do better and not hurt any animals.” The creature is reportedly sleeker, more agile, and will me more of a mutant than the cute lizard in the original.
The cast includes Kelli (CHOPPING MALL, NIGHT OF THE COMET) Maroney, Don Sullivan, who played Chase in the original GILA MONSTER, Teri (TOUR OF DUTY) Knox, Christina (PIRANHACONDA) DeRosa, along with many Midwestern locals. Tony (TICKS) Randel is editing.
Summarizes Wynorski, “It has a lot of things people love. It’s got hot rods, rock n’ roll, hot chicks, a monster, and the cache of the original.”
Stay tuned to FM.com for more exclusive coverage of the film as it moves through production! In the meantime, enjoy our gallery of production photos:
